1.2 Important Words

This is a lot to soak in, so I have made 2 audio clips to understand it.

When I say these words, it is a good idea to repeat to get the accent right.

 

Vocabulary

Important Characters
好      hǎo     – Good (I can also mean ‘okay’/’I got it’ if you say it by itself, so if my teacher tells me to do something, I reply with ‘好’)
不      bù       – No/Not (used before verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs)
是      shì      – Yes / is or are (to be)
不是  bú shì- No (NOTICE THE CHANGE IN ACCENTS, IT SOUNDS DIFFERENT)
有      yǒu     – There is, exist / To have or possess (Never put ‘bù’ before this one)

和      hé       – And
可是  kě shì – But
的      dè       – Of (like an apostrophe)
了       le        – Used to describe a completed action

Asking Questions
吧   ba      – Indicating a suggestion, a request or an informal command
吗   ma     – This is the word that makes a statement become a question. (Add at end of statement)
呢   ne      – Used at the end of a question too, but is to ask for information.

Answering Questions
这      zhè  – This
是      shì   – Is are
对      duì   – That is correct
