Christmas Citibike Hour
On a surprisingly warm Christmas day in NYC, I tried to get as many citibike points as possible in one hour. I got 47 points. Here are some of my thoughts:
- One of the biggest goals was to get a workout in. I laced up my running shoes and mentally prepared myself for a quick transition between biking and running.
- This did not actually feel like a workout. Not only did I get confused a couple of times and had to stop to glance at my gps, the amount of time waiting at the station really ate up my exercise time.
- I tried not to repeat myself within the hour. I thought it would be fun to have variety in both the destination and path.
- It took a surprising amount of time to load the bike app and physically unlock the bike. It got to a point where my heart rate went down by the time I was able to embark on my next journey.
- Running through traffic lights continues to be not fun and also not safe.
- In Citibike you get 2x the amount of points after 1 ride that earns points and 3x after 4 consecutive rides.
- I should’ve taken shorter trips near the beginning, and longer trips near the end.
- After converting these to ebike credit (which gives me ~ 40m of ebike), I’d say it’s worth at least $10 for my troubles.
I think I’ll stick to my longer citibike rides, and let the points come naturally to me. Although, I’ll probably try again when the weather is nicer with a better strategy!
