My Ideal Backpack
Had a choice on what I could bring to school (and a lot of money), I would only need to put three things inside my backpack and it would help the environment (on going paperless, not so much on electricity).
My Computer
Okay, My computer is awesome. I can surf the web, create documents, and work on presentations. The big screen allows me to see more of what I’m working on and the cursor allows for more difficult tasks (contrary to the tablet). It also has a bigger storage drive, allowing me just to dump data without warning about running out of it.Typing on the computer is better because I’m used to typing on a keyboard, not a iPad where I don’t even know where the keys are, So I have to constantly look at the keyboard to find the correct keys.
Cost: ~1200 (I don’t know, Windows computers are cheap, but they don’t have that sleekness and design as MacBooks, which is much more easier to use [personally])
Digital Paper
The Sony recently came out with digital paper, which is essentially a daily habit that feels like paper and you can write on it. This is better then a tablet because it actually feels like paper (not glass), because the styluses on the tablets are big and not accurate.
However, Sony isn’t really focusing on the educational side of it. They are focusing their advertisement and prices toward the richer people like lawyers and government officials where paper is everywhere. And since it is the only product in the product category (right now), they have a ‘monopoly’ and can make the price really high.
Another thing is that if I was to bring it to school, everyone would have to jump on the bandwagon. Because if I was a teacher I would not want to receive homework in both PDF form and regular paper form for that would just be confusing to sort, organize, and grade. So in that case, I would need to buy a scanner to scan in the homework that my teachers gave me, and then I would have to go to the library to print out my homework after I completed so I can turn it in. Which can be really, really tedious, and it would prevent me from trying to complete the homework the class period before.
Cost: ~1100
Tablet
Sometimes you just have to relax, and with the computer it’s sometimes too big and bulky for you to carry in your hand around the room. So that’s why tablets are awesome because using that you can play games on it, present using it, and it’s basically a portable viewing screen. It has advantages over the computer, like the touchscreen and lightness, but with that goes processor power.
Cost: ~600
~$2800- In a backpack, YIKES~!
But thinking about it, I sometimes just prefers using paper and pencil because it feels natural. But if that happened, my organization would go off the charts.
I love my laptop which also has the touch screen function and is really light. The only issue is I lose the iMessage function found on the apple products everyone in school uses. Additionally, some education companies such as eBackpack are focusing on the development of their apps, leaving their website harder to use. :(
